Over the past few years, the term “Hipster” has erupted into a very common household word. Typically, being a Hipster simply means that you don’t partake in modern, popular culture. Hipsters find themselves more engaged in independent films, music, and political views while mostly avoiding what they consider to be “mainstream”. None-too-different from the Hipster is the Hippie, a generation of pot-smoking, peace-loving individuals that rose up in the 1970’s to speak out against war and injustice. But mostly they just smoked a lot of weed. Somewhere along the line, somebody thought that these two generations would meld perfectly to create this college party theme – Hippies and Hipsters.
